Public Relations & Marketing Manager

The Phoenix Zoo is hiring a PR and Marketing Manager committed to the goal of increasing the visibility of our organization, positioning it through aggressive, effective and strategic communications and promotional efforts. This will be achieved through working closely with internal departments, ensuring consistency and quality throughout the Zoo’s marketing & communication efforts, as well as maintaining relationships with local media and key community opinion influencers. The manager in this position will assist in developing and executing comprehensive marketing & communications plans and programs, both short and long range. This individual will serve as the primary representative to the media, press and public by acting as primary spokesperson, including coordinating media availability of appropriate staff and directly responding to all media-related inquiries. All opportunities to promote the Zoo, its programs, and its products to all audiences through all available channels should be aggressively pursued. In this position, the manager will also research and write copy for the Zoo’s promotional materials, manage the development and production of printed collateral and online media including, but not limited to, Wild Times member magazine, zNews e-mail newsletter, phoenixzoo.org and the Zoo’s social media sites (twitter.com, facebook.com, youtube.com, myspace.com and phxzooblog.org). The PR and Marketing Manager will assist as liaison for Phoenix Zoo advertising which includes: managing creative product development, timetable and trafficking of media; supervision of advertising messaging; serve as secondary day-to-day contact for advertising and public relations agency (general market and Hispanic).
This position requires a B.A. in Journalism/PR, Marketing or related field; 5-7 years of experience in public relations or marketing communications, including direct media relations experience and prior supervisory experience. Preferred qualifications include Spanish speaking, established contact with local print and electronic media.
